One Day Events and Research Abilities

In short, is there a reason to have a Research Pool during the One Day events in August and September? Or should we build without them, and if we were planning on taking them, mulligan into having them before the first event of 2014?

Inquiring minds... would be eager to hear. If you don't want to tell, that's alright. Just figured I'd be that guy who asked.

I'm not on Plot or in any position of authority, but I remember at the two Lost Eidolons 1-days, I was able to use my research skills in between those events. If I recall, I was able to learn how to perform a ritual exorcism to fix the demon that had been semi-unleashed due to the shenanigans of some excitable zealots who disrupted an earlier ritual, FATHER SAHAAL! *ahem*

In short, it's my experience that Plot likes to encourage PC research (sometimes to the detriment of player sanity, but they consider that icing on the cake of doom), but Jacob will, of course, have the definitive answer.

That's pretty big talk from a man whose god turned out to be a spaceship :P

Every-time someone says that they only prove their ignorance and utter lack of understanding of the Phenexian Faith. Phenex is/was NOT God. Phenex was the creator of mankind (Our Prometheus), the chief of Angels, our beloved messiah who gave mankind our sacred and divine mandate. My savior/messiah turned out to be a space ship... my "God" turned out to be a waaay escalated and dystopian version of NATO if the Cold war got way worse and never ended (All hail the Almighty-Western Empire!).

Seriously, though, to answer the question at hand:

The "Mulligan" rule is to allow people to try a concept without fear of being locked into it forever and ever if they don't like it. We'd prefer people not game the system and say "well, it's just a one day, I'll just scratch these skill later on!" OR is a story driven game, and we really want people to make characters that fit into the world--not just blocks of stats.

You should be able to use Research Skills after the 1 Day events. Perhaps not to full effect, but there will be plenty you guys can (and will need to) do with them!

Woot! Since I was planning on going with a Research focused character, I was worried about having (basically) dead weight on my sheet in a game where having that extra bullet could save someone else's life.

Thank you for the clarity, Jacob and Treska! And... space ship... Jesus... ?

Also, will the One Days take place in Whisper Hill? And will we be given an opportunity to add to our initial backgrounds to give our characters reasons to come back to Whisper Hill, if so?

The module days will involve Whisper Hill in some capacity. There shouldn't be a need to refactor your background as a result of what occurs there.

In other words, prep your OR PC (stats, background and all) and then show up and see what happens :)
