Character Histories

At great risk of flaring the ire of one, or all as the case maybe, of staff but: when is it we should begin to hammer down our PC histories? I have no doubt all here have a myriad of concepts we would like to pursue. I just would like to know when should we start making hard choices and setting them down on paper.

And for bonus doom tokens added to the tally on my invisible Character sheet: who will be the sorry soul whose inbox we will be inundating? (As one who used to craft players ruination from their submissions...I realize this is much akin to grabbing the lions tail and skipping rope with it. I also apologize if this is redundant if this was addressed elsewhere in the forums.)
People come to me looking for the truth as it suits them. They look for a happy ending to their troubles. Too bad for them. I don't do happy. As to putting an end to things, The Truth often does a fine job with out me.

I still have my background farmed out to a few friends for critique. Nothing back yet but a few spelling errors. I need an idea if it's too long/too short/too obscure in it's references before I submit it.
(Doom Tokens? Hmm, I could so make those and hand them out to people. I already have a pocket full of clues IRL)

While it is nice that Database will have them hosted (once it is available), I believe what he possibly also meant to say was: Is There Anything Off-Limits when it comes to Character History?

Because some of us(them) don't want to be hit with the Trout of Shame or the Salmon of Despair.

I would hold off on completely hammering down characters at least for a while, just in case rules shift in a way that could shift your character concept. Rules on the wiki are "pre-alpha" release. The alpha release rulebook rules are done, but the beautification process of the book is in its last phases. We don't forsee drastic rule changes after the alpha release because we feel things are pretty solid, but you never know, so there will be a beta and final release later on. Beta and final release schedule to be determined, probably by Jacob. :)

So I think if you solidify your character sometime after the alpha rulebook hits, you should have a fair shot at probably not having to change much between now and game on. People have floated ideas past us via staff@occamsrazorlarp.com and are welcome to do so, but detailed character histories will be accepted through the CDB when it goes live. Hope that helped. :D

It's only tangentially related to character histories, but I enjoy plugging my CH and my PELs into here: http://www.wordle.net/

Aside from the fact that it looks neat, it also shows you what words you use most often. Apparently, I'm a fan of "never", "like" and "one".

As the people who are going to be reading this, is there any preference for shorter histories, or can we go nuts? The muse is speaking to me, saying "now we shall explore your tragicomic past!", and I'm at 790 words and counting...
