Flashlights? Tromping around in the woods is such a pain with just a glowstick. Plus it's so atmosphereic to catch a glimpse of the monster in a flashlight beam
As John mentioned, flashlights are a good idea and are encouraged due to the presence of OOG wildlife. As Brendan mentioned, no one likes getting a flashlight to the face so keep that in mind, filter your lights, and don't aim them above waist level if possible.
MP-3 Players? Some of them can receive FM radio, but most are just so you can have your theme music playing as you sneak through the woods (And what monster doesn't love sneaking up to someone oblivious wearing earbuds)
Monsters sneaking up on oblivious people? That'd never happen! But music players of all varieties (walkman thru iPhone 5) are allowed if you're willing to risk LARPing with them. Be advised if you're planning on using a smart phone as a music player that the music playing functions work properly (most of the time), but the cell phone/wireless internet/communications parts of the device would NOT function properly IG under the Weirdness of Whisper Hill clause already mentioned. Please remember to turn your ringers off if you plan on carrying a phone. Put it on silent if possible. We'd like to avoid calls or texts coming in during tense RP moments. Trying to pick up FM frequencies (unless otherwise noted) results in that sort of static you get when you're three notches away from a station and can barely hear something, but that's as close as you get.
Tablet or Laptop? (Not for walking around in the woods. You'd have to be crazy to risk it getting dropped/smacked. But more for note taking, typing up a journal story and Angry Birds back at the cabins)
Tablets and laptops function properly (most of the time) in Whisper Hill as far as games and data entry are concerned. Picking up the internet either via wi-fi or 3G/4G doesn't seem to work--the device doesn't get a signal. Please use common sense with these items and remember that NO location will be COMPLETELY safe! Use at your own risk.
Hiker's GPS system? Mostly to keep people from getting lost in the woods.
As a GPS system wirelessly triangulates from satellites, this device would not function in game. You can have one OOG if you're really worried about getting lost in the woods, but there should be no reason for people to wander off into the woods without plot and players are discouraged from doing so for safety! Don't worry, the camp is clearly delineated and plenty large for shenanigans!
Binoculars? Spot the Bluebird, spot the Mi-Go, run like crazy
No wireless components: Analog binoculars work fine, digital ones work most of the time.
I would also suggest the banning of two items.
Cameras should be ok, but No Flash photography at night. It would be dangerous for NPCs to get blinded
Two, no bluetooth connected items. Should be covered under the same Interference preventing the communications. So no bluetooth video cameras planted along the trail or the back of the cabin
And of course, this is all with the understanding that you don't bring anything you don't want to see lost/broken. Because that happens at LARPS and you only have yourself to blame if it does
Correct, correct, correct. Remember! Please get permission to photograph people before you do.
