Costume Questions

Postby redraverfae » Thu Mar 07, 2013 5:07 pm

I figured I'd start up a thread where people could share their costuming ideas, questions, tips, etc.

That said: would this be decent for a Changeling (the shiny ones), or because of the lights involved it would be too much of a hazard at night for fellow PCs/NPCs?

Also: Are there any general styles or what have you we ought to avoid (due to melee combat boffers, safety, etc)? I mean, metal spikes are obvious, but anything else? Probably no real-world cop outfits just in case a mundane was about or something?

I don't think it would be a night fight hazard, but I also don't think it fulfills the required costuming for a brightness changeling.

Well, Humans, Strain 117, and Psychics do have the less amount of "requirements in looks" than anyone else, it's true. :) That said, if a Human/Psychic/Strainer just loves make-up, it might behoove them to make sure they don't look like a Changeling.

I also noticed there are no half-breeds in the game (thus far). My own opinion by that makes me wicked happy.

For the Bound:

Is it just because we don't want to look like the Dom/sub thing that 'dog collars and the like are NOT ok'?

- "Digitigrade" legs that end in cloven hooves - Is there a link around to show how to build these? I don't even know what that first word means. :)

Digitigrade, or Digigrade legs are very cool.

There are many ways to fulfill this requirement, and some that are not allowed in the game.

Creating pants that simulate the effect with padding/foam, is completely allowed! Other words used to find these patterns are "faun legs".

There are some actual stilts that are made of common materials. If you're interested prototyping a pair and showing us that they're safe, we're very willing to entertain them, especially since they wouldn't be worn at all times and only during certain phases of The Bound or Skinwalkers.

There are also some fantastic digigrade legs that cost about an arm and a leg, but if you have the money to burn they look FANTASTIC.

There are always other home-grown ways to make this effect happen, if you have a specific idea run it past us! Some unacceptable solutions are: painters' silts, platform boots, and other things that only add height and not the extra jointed look.

For Addiction, Level 1: is it alright to bring in our own "fake" cigarettes (Like lucky strike bubblegum cigs, or a theater prop that doesn't smoke) and our containers for the "alcohol" (our own flasks or lucky shot glasses or something)? Or would you prefer we just stick to the cards only?

To answer Janna's question about the dog collars: We're talking about the cheapo nylon dog collars at the pet store, and it's a no because it just doesn't fit the aesthetic. However, I believe we also rule out spiked collars as well, for safety. Spike to the Neck technique is not something we support at OR.

The collar should be something a bit more complicated/special than a nylon dog collar. Think about it--it's the last binding holding in an infernal terror. What does that look like? Any number of interesting things, but not a nylon collar, generally.

Hope that helped. :)

Janna, stop posting at the same time as me. lol

E-cigarettes & flasks: we have had some question on these. Our understanding is the e-cigarettes make a vapor and don't pose risk of fire. As long as you clean up any waste it might make, they can be used. Flasks (filled with water or your favorite non-alcoholic drink!) are also allowed as props.

Please note: neither of these are allowed be used when you can see OR hear combat. We'd like to avoid incidents of people getting whacked with things in their mouths, even by accident.
