Outside the Diner

Nick looks at Brett, the suddenly tilts his head to the side for a minute as if to listen. He pulls out a notebook, quickly scribbles a line or two, and then turns back to the conversation at hand.

Kelsey glanced Leslie's way, thinking she'd maybe heard him say something, but by the time she opened her mouth to greet him he was already heading back into the diner.

"Hey, Leslie," she said to his retreating back, then went back to looking expectantly at Brett.

"Well, I need to get going," Kelsey said, after a brief look at her watch. "I'll catch up with you later, okay Brett?" She frowned. "For what it's worth, I'm sorry you had to hear the bad news like this. There's never really a good time for it." She adjusted the bag on her shoulder and turned to head off. "Stay safe."
