Favorite Moments, November 2014

Where to begin...

That thing on Friday night; you know who you are. It was the moment we realized that the staff had read our backstories in enough detail to incorporate it into deep roleplay.

The conversations after Gus died; I heard philosophy, deep introspection, and learned several new things about myself :)

The moment when the Talon people took the belltower and set up a sniper's post. Awesomely terrifying! For that matter, the continual gesture sniper attacks by name were also terrifying.

Sneaking with Liberty and the Professor into the Shadow mod and creeping up on 3 sleepers to take them out simultaneously. Liberty stepped on a creaky part of the floor, and one of them snorted and turned over in their sleep while we froze. Then we crept up, avoided the creaking, and got them all at once.

Hearing the truth about Whisper Hill and the disappearances, and then realizing that half of my cases had just been solved in one fell swoop.

Being bribed to shout about boomerang fish while fighting against the shadow touched. And doing it.

Walking up to the fire and being assigned a muppet out of nowhere.

Walking into an empty diner with Gabriel wondering where everyone was, only to have Husks start walking in from every door. Going back to back in the tiny circle of light and suddenly feeling like I'd stumbled into a zombie LARP as I tossed aside my hand gun and picked up my rifle.

The Friday Night scene. Realizing I'd have to say a certain name to end it.

Sitting on the hill and crying. Seeing Hank walk up with black goo running from his eyes. Slowly standing up and picking my weapons up, still crying.

Finally getting an opportunity to Resist Whisper.

Talking to Father Ashmore in the middle of the night alone in the dark. Crying some more.

The first "2 Damage by Dominance!" Every subsequent "2 Damage by Dominance!"

Amarak.

The entire corp field fight. How it ranged all over town. Huddling against a building, desperately trying to finish stopping someone from bleeding out.
If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night
Calling out for the rope, sent by and we will
Watch the flames burn on and on the mountain side hey

what a great event

Friday night and seeing my self and hating everything about what I am.

being part of the "family"

fighting the underboss several times.

being invited to "lunch" with mr Saturday dear god staff did an amazing job with that whole set up and execution hats off to you.

showing the more serious side of vasily to the people around me.

being in the cave of whispers and then getting frenzied and stabbing the people that were with me then watching mason take my knife and attack the same people with it.

talking to brett about things.

talking to Amarak. and giving him a pie.

making deals with the raccoon and that whole entire thing with JD.

such an amazing event

Best worst lunch date ever. I might have spent more time crying than people did eating.

The catastrophe on the front porch cause by the thing(s) coming out of the woods.

Poor Hank. :( He was my favorite ninja.

Favorite Moments? Sure!

WZON being dead on all weekend!

-And by proxy, leading the tavern out to do battle with the Corrupted to the tune of "Don't Stop Believing"

-Doctor's Visit!

- Looking over the Last Free Voice, and making a connection that completely shut me up... for 5 whole minutes.

-PICTURES... SO MANY PICTURES... REACTIONS TO PICTURES AND EVEN MORE PICTURES LATER

-Raking Leaves! It was so much fun to take a break from all of the heavy plot going on and have a ridiculously fun time screwing around with broken rakes, leaves, and wind... with candy!

-Standing at the top of the hill as other folks were returning from Blackstone's robot fight. Everyone going on about how awesome robots were and John's contact seeing my mile wide grin and just responding "I'll say you the trouble, no comment..."

-Having 2 people inform me that The Feds were stalking me and totally missing them, awkward...

-The Muppet Conversation... This was my fault entirely, I did it, everyone else was just too tired to realize how awful an idea it was.

-The First Nations meeting & Billie's incredible knowledge that made TOM mad about the treatment of indigenous peoples, not just the character. Bravo sir on an incredible speech.

-By Proxy, DAT COFFEE

-The sobering time after Gus had passed sitting on the porch. Anger was high, emotions running rampant, and looking down at the ax he had lent to me that morning.

First Tears at OR, it took LE 3 Years to get those!

The conversation with Mike afterward, and dropping the tin foil, yielding the ax into battle.

All of the quiet conversations, tears, jokes, and beautiful little moments that makes this game so scarily human.

More as I come up with them, thank you all so much!

Running terrified from the not living shadow things to hide under the deck, then grabbing the Sheriff's leg. "It's OK, sweetie, you can come out now"

Sally and JD... Glad I'm not the only one curious what would happen if someone grabbed that empty...

Getting almost dead, covering Victor and waking up in the diner, then pelting back through the cave with Victor and... I don't remember who else, sneaking up behind the monsters and into the fray... taking a hit from either Ed or JD for not announcing ourselves.

Gog and Magog. See but don't look. don't look.

12 year old Sally. (sorry I took your shoes)

Amarak.

Seeing everyone's reaction to Gus' self sacrifice... everyone realizing that it was for keeps. Immediately after, watching Hank's friends trying to convince him to stay, not knowing that it was for keeps.

Blowing up the mansion... maybe... did anyone confirm the charges went off as planned?

Sunday. All of it. Town meeting, debriefing... putting pieces together... then the world went boom. The doctor...(so cool!) Running, trying to hide, divert, anything... then a pair of armored boots and a rifle. Stunned, maimed, crawling away, stunned again, getting away and hiding... then peeking around the cabin and seeing everyone down, a few dragging bodies to the medics, a few covering them... just... pandemonium. The moment I decided that the mercs would in fact take the whole town. Then there was nothing else to do ... Telling Mason and Corvis to get back and keep everyone safe.. "Is this what you want?" "No!"
Then watching the diner fade into the distance, bodies everywhere.. omfg you guys. It was amazing.

This event was pretty amazing.

The thing on friday, you all know who you are, and the conversation on Saturday morning that followed.

Finally getting to see the power loader. That was amazing. Just, massive amounts of amazing.

Getting more cancer in the power plant.

ROBOTS! JUST SO MANY ROBOTS THIS WEEKEND! AHHH ROBOTS AHHHH. The bunker robot was just so cool. I was pretty close to crying tears of joy. Like, I've never experienced panic, fear, and extreme amounts of happiness all rolled into one until the robot rolled out into the mod building and just started firing at us. I also enjoyed getting to make all of the sound effects for the robot trying to kill us afterwards when describing it to other people.

Also the walker robots were super cool.

The hardware store. Finding out what it's like to be in a zombie apocalypse and not be able to just pick up a weapon and be able to use it. Then I found the nail gun. I need a nailgun now in the event of further terrible things.

"What's Fraggle Rock?" "LEAVE!" Also, when it comes to Muppets, was Beaker already taken?

Barely outrunning a corrupt late Saturday night when the big fight happened. I ended up surrounded and just sprinted up the rock path in the dark, not entirely sure of where I was going. Moral of the story, I got away but I need to work out more. That was way too close for comfort.

Discovering that Hank was also a talented engineer! That was amazing, but then we lost Hank. :(

Alice's PC, at the end of the game, looking at me going, "I didn't see that coming"

Also, a favorite moment goes to when I was at a McDonald's on the way back home, and people were talking loudly about bell bottoms and I thought I was still in Whisper Hill. Whisper Hill is so much like a real place it's scary.

More as I remember them.
(Lost Eidolons) Sir Gilliam Stardust II- You were right all along! Inside the box was another, smaller box.
(Occam's Razor) Maxwell Schmitt- Do you wanna build a robot?

Seeing all the lovely PC faces react to the encounter I wrote for them (and my very first time writing for OR) on Friday night. You know who you are. I thought I had an idea of what to expect, you all proved me very pleasantly wrong. :-)
Kudos to my NPC's whom I gave specific RP notes to and they nailed it.

Watching the PC's sneak from cabin to cabin and very skillfully murder people in their sleep without a peep....and then literally jumping out of my skin when the NPC shrieked in pain randomly. I was so panicked at one point that I shot an NPC (sorry Matt) in the mouth because he snuck up on me from around the corner of a cabin.

Listening to Mason (as Agent Courday) tell me everything he figured out....and then being able to watch later on as he realized he was right.

Talking with Maxwell and others as Dr. Cauldwell

The Séance mod Saturday night

Seeing Sally's face after he saw Gog and Magog, I've never seen him so white.

You all bring such a richness and depth to this game it's quite impressive. It's really hard to predict what everyone will do next. Thank you for your consideration for the staff and NPCs regarding the weather. Thank you for your safe fighting. And thanks, most of all, for bringing the game to life.

Walking out of the diner to fight the empty with a group of people singing "Don't Stop Believing", then collapsing into a fit of giggles as I realized we were fighting "shadows searching in the night." Thank you, Brett.

That mod on Friday night, and the conversations that followed. You know who you are. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of that.

Defending the power to cabin 5.5 with Brett, Ondrei, and Mr. Jones. Running out of ammo and having Ondrei scare me into getting one last shot. Best pep talk ever.

That robot in the bunker. Brett's conversation with our Blackstone rep when we got back, and the rep realized it was too late to keep Brett from telling the world that we'd fought a robot. "You know how you can shut me up," Brett said, "Just tell me the truth. So what would you rather have - me spreading around the embarrassing truth, or me knowing the actual truth?" Without hesitation, the Blackstone rep replied, "ROBOTS."

The Cave of Whispers. The conversations that followed. Pacing outside the diner, crying, because Kelsey couldn't bring herself to go in. Brett and Nick trying to comfort her. Billy's apology and the aftermath thereof. Realizing, after she'd had time to calm down, that she couldn't risk dying before she'd apologized to Eden. The apology to Eden.

Going out with Sally to hunt down a monster, and telling Sally that if it was the thing that killed Adam Campbell, I wanted to punch it in the face. Sally's offer to help that went above and beyond.

Talking to Dr. Rue Sunday morning. The town meeting.

Running out of the diner with one of the Protean soldiers attacking me. Stumbling out of the back door as I took the last "2 damage" hit, only to fall down at Dr. Rue's feet.

Walking up to the corp army's sniper nest with my hands over my head, expecting to get shot. Having them actually notice the caduceus on my bag and let me retrieve Alana's unconscious body and drag her back to triage. So cool to get to fight something that actually respects the non-combatant status of medics.

There are more. This weekend was amazing, and emotional, and I enjoyed roleplaying with each and every one of you. Thank you so much, players and staff alike, for bringing Whisper Hill to life.

Finding Adam Campell's body and the dawning horror that he was actually dead. Refusing to leave the scene until one of the Sheriff's deputies showed up.

Fighting and hiding from nasty shadow creatures with Morsi. It's lucky that Eden has friends who kick so much ass.

MOGGIE! And Kelsey's amazing new quest!

The library and the adorably irascible Mr. Kennigan. Seeing Sally walk into the library and knowing that wasn't going to end well. Personally causing a worse ending than Sally did.

Pretty much every conversation with Billy St. Francis.

And every conversation with Brett "Fozzie Bear" McKinnon.

Getting to know and befriend the amazing Pandora on Friday, then having to watch her get taken away on Sunday.

The cave. The fucking Cave of Whispers and everything that happened therein. Losing it to a degree I've never lost it before at a larp. Needing to tell people over and over after the event that I never lose it like that.

Seeing Gog and Magog and realizing that Eden was completely out of both fucks and cope.

JD and "Outside raccoons get food. Inside racoons don't."

The incredible tag team of Billy and Mason stepping up and addressing the town in a post-Gus world.
“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”
