So, Leslie, now that you no longer need to talk in innuendo and euphemism, why don't you tell us what you know about the aos si?

What of the courts? Are they like the Seelie and Unseelie of the Meredith Gentry books? Or maybe more like the Winter and Summer of the Dresden Files? Possibly the Light and Dark from that show Lost Girl? Or maybe nothing like?

My only references are to modern culture, though I have tried to slog through the Ulster Cycle. You on the other hand seem to know something of these Fair Folk. Unless I have confused the issue?

I say why speculate if you can provide us with actual concrete information. So, what can you tell us?

First - what are the core values of each group? Second - do they have weaknesses that you have seen? Third - are they truly like the creatures from myth that we compare them to or are they something else entirely as that would inform our speculations, I think. Fourth...

Bob emerges from the kitchen where he'd been talking with Flo, his body armor slung over one shoulder.

"Anyone hits Leslie, they answer to me."
He points a finger at Leslie, "You did what you had to son. High-and-mighty blackmailed you int'a it after all. Aint no shame in that."

He listens to the conversation for a few and then nods, "Problem is we're playing their game, with the rules they make up as suits them."

He grins darkly, "Hey Sally.. 'aint it been said that if you cant win by playing by the rules, change the rules? I think we need to know more about the rules of their little game. Once we know those, then we can make them play our game. Because I'll bet credits there are rules that they 'aint tellin us bout."

"Until that happens, we need to find a way to make sure the folks of this here town dont end up as collateral damage in these tantrums of theirs. Need I remind everyone that people DIED to salve their bruised egos?"

He shakes his head and growls, "No, this will not stand. Next time, we'd better be ready to show them that we will not be pawns in their game. I, for one will be dammed if they at least don't know they've b'n kissed when I'm done with 'em next time they come a' knockin. Our boys are gonna be movin' a right mighty amount of gear this way for the facility. Time 'fer me to grease a few palms and see what I can wrangle up this way. We'll see if we cant even the odds a little bit with some dragons of our own."

With that, he heads for the exit muttering. ""

Alice pointed at Bob, although she didn't look at him. Her eyes closed as if trying to listen to something just outside of earshot.

"Important clarification," she murmured distractedly. "I don't believe they can make up the rules as it suits them. I believe that there are incontrovertible rules that they cannot break. However, we don't [/i]know[/i] these rules. Or, at least, most of us don't..." her eyes moved towards Leslie, and she quirked a brow and took a drink.

"I didn't say I was going to play their games," Kelsey said to Eden. "Just that I wasn't going to walk away from the table. I'm not opposed to flipping the board over, if that's what it takes."

She looked over at Antalya. "I don't know much about the fae. I was explaining a lot about what was going on to folks this weekend, sure, but that's just cause I kept my eyes and ears open. And asked a ton of questions to Sir Frostwright when he was in an answering mood. I'm told that they grow old, eventually. That they can walk between realms, even other planets. That King Arthur is totally a real thing." She shook her head, this time in amazement. "Red said they were vulnerable to the sound of bells, and she can weaponize that. So maybe you'e better off asking her."

She listened with some interest when Liberty started grilling Leslie, then whirled on Bob Grey. "No, you don't need to remind me. I was there, remember? I was the one running among the bodies, unable to keep track of who was unconscious, who was dead, and who I could still save. I can't tell you how many times I looked over one of ours only to realize their heart had stopped beating, but it was too. Damn. Many."

"So get your dragons. In the end I think Leslie's gonna be right - we need brains as much as firepower to solve this. But I'll be damn glad of any advantage we can get."

[Sally]

Sally swallows some more cookie and looks around. He seems quite content to be surrounded by the mass of people, but as questions turn to answers about ways to deal with the Fair Folk, he says,

"Where's that lil' bugaboo in the darkly-sparkly stuff?" he narrows his eyes, and hollers out, "VICTOR DAMN JONES, WHERE YOU AT, KID?"

Looking back to the group, "We gotta get all sci-en-tifical 'bout this," he says, reaching into one of pouches for a handful of bullets, presumably to throw at Victor's feet. Kelsey mentioning a metal allergy made his eyes flash, and the memory of being out on the porch during the DPL Shindig flared up. Leslie had touched a spoon and quickly recoiled. A METAL SPOON.

He glances around, looking for another such spoon, then realizes his knife is steel, then realizes how bad an idea it is for this particular Marine to draw a knife, apropos nothing, and instead reaches for into his pocket for a bent old nail. Mr. Marner had him extracting a possum from the undercarriage of one of the DPL trucks earlier, and he'd damn-near kneeled down on said nail. He does all of this digging through his multitude of pouches without unhooking his arm from Alice OR removing the icepack from his face.

Finally, a rusty old nail appears 'tween his fingers. Strangely, it seems caked in soggy french toast.

Alex's face is overcome with a devilish grin when Bob mentions the thought of the town acquiring its own dragon.

"something tells me that if the town managed to somehow magically acquire a dragon for itself, that dragon would have an agenda of his own. Still, it is an interesting notion. Not that it matters. Based on recent events I appear to be the only one around here who respects the importance of the Great Beasts. Just worry about the Fae. You could say dealing with giant lizard-like creatures is a specialty of mine." Alex cracks his usually scaled knuckles, now resembling those of an ordinary person.

The pile of black canvas that has been sitting in the corner shifts and one red eye peers out of a crack. She wonders now much trouble the corporation will go through to find her here and what danger they will bring when they do. She has felt safer here since she began running and this seems as good a place as any to winter. But what then? should she leave now before she has given them too much information about herself or wait and perhaps they would be willing to help her when the time arises.

In the meantime no doubt the dawn Court will require service to reclaim the throne and there will be a repeat of the previous day's events... but with key players on the opposite side of the town. She closes her eyes, the one red one reopens into the crack and finds the best angle to see the widest view in the diner. She fishes a square chicken hand pie out of her satchel and eats it silently as the rest of the room continues speaking*

victor's head snaps up and she glares at sally from her seat on the hearth. "JEEEEZ, WHAT?? i was listening to you the whole time, you big dumb head.."

she squints as he pulls out the bent nail. there is something about it she finds deeply disturbing, and she was reasonably sure it wasn't the disgusting breakfast debris that came with it onto sally's hand..

she jumps to her feet finally, in a wary stance, ready to run. looks over to pandora in the corner, wonders if she was watching, has her back. she suspects so.

"..sally, what the HELL is that and what are you doing?"

Antalya nods at Pandora.

"I have no doubt we will be seeing the dusk court refusing to relinquish the throne come spring, and no doubt that the Dawn court will come asking for our help. Probably by offering to "forgive" our indiscretion this fall." She rolls her eyes.
"My preference of course, would be to tell them to go pound cold iron, as the stories go, but in truth, we will probably have very little choice in the matter. When Fae look upon humans... well, it doesn't matter if the pitcher hits the stone, or the stone hits the pitcher; it's going to be bad for the pitcher.
"What we ought to do, those of us on speaking terms with those of them, is to make a much better and stronger bargain then we did this time. If the tales are true, the Fae are bound by their word, much more strongly than we are, although you must be very clear on the deal you strike, as they will try to twist it to the best of their abilities."

[Sally]

"C'mere a second, ya little monster," Sally says, beckoning with the nail. "I need you ta see if this here thing's got any hoo-doo clue-doo on it," he waves the nail and tips it toward her.
