"I didn't bring much in the way of reading material with me."

She fished a copy of Anne Bishop's Daughter of The Blood out of her bag. The cover was intact, but adorned with so many scratches and dings, it was clear she'd been carrying it with her on at least one of their more active outings.

"An exchange sounds pretty good to me, though. I bet I could arrange to have some more of my library shipped up here."

She seemed intrigued by the professor's offerings. "Any recommendations on a good English translation of those first two, professor? I've got to admit you've got me curious."

:: Liberty slants a glance at Kelsey's offering, then digs a little deeper into her bag and pulls out a thick, trade paperback copy of The Black Jewels Trilogy and places it beside the more esoteric offerings she'd provided previously. ::

:: there is a pause as she lifts her eyebrows very slightly then says completely deadpan ::
Lucivar is an admirable fighter. I would like an Eyrien war-blade.

:: as if that explained anything, she turned her attention back to her comic. Then she looks up again. ::
I would be interested in a nutshell of the saga cycle. I've tried reading Celtic mythology but I find it similar to reading The Iiliad or Genesis in the Bible. Too much so-and-so begat so-and-so or 12 individuals all named the same thing and differentiated by what type of cuirass they wore.

I don't suppose there are Baron's notes on it?

Nick Sleet wanders by and pulls out a battered copy of "The Man with the Golden Torc".

"I was reading this, but it hit a little too close to home on the island. Maybe now that things are a bit quieter I can get back into it..."

"I have some good classics of the Western and Scifi variety," offers Billy with a shrug. He holds up his copy of Mojave Crossing by Louis L'Amour. "Three weeks into quarantine, and they handed me a cardboard box with the belongings they collected from what was left of my car. I had this, Brave New World, and the Moon is a Harsh Mistress in a still readable condition. Smells a bit like napalm, though."

He sets the book down on the table.

"If I can get a call out to someone in the tribe, I might be able to get a ride downstate, and pick up some cheap books for people. If there's interest."

Bob looks up from where he'd parked himself at a table nearby, "if it's all the same, I'm thinkin that my recreational reading might be a touch.. dangerous to be putting in 'ta the general circulation. Now once 'ta sherrif gets done with them background checks, I might be persuaded to let some folks browse. The cleared folks at least.."

He tugs a clearly well cared for paperback from his backpack to illustrate his point. The US army guide to improvised field munitions.

"best way to know how to disarm 'em is to know how the pogs make 'em in the first place after all."

At the mention of the "The Cattle Raid of Cooley" Henry scratched his head for a moment in thought. The name struck a bell way towards the back of his recollection. Hearing it was from Ireland help bring the memory racing towards the fore.

"Oh!" Henry said with a snap "I remember that one. It's one of those stories the Cliff notes need Cliff notes. The Cattle Raid had to do with Queen Medb and Cuchulain. The best I can offer is this proves the only army equal to the Irish were beings beyond the scope of reason. These were the origins of Fae lore I think. Both sides ended bloodied and The Fae pushed off I think to greener pastures. Shortly after that I think is when God realized it best to step in on behalf of the world to prevent Ireland's inevitable take over. "

"Shortly after that Whiskey was invented and the world stood save." Henry offered a smile to the group.

"Aye, Henry. That it be." The Professor chuckles at such a quaint but truthful description of the Táin Bó Cúailnge.

"As for English translations, there have been a few. I think I may have a copy of 'The Táin: by Ciaran Carson' knocking around somewhere at home. I'll see if Melly can find it and toss it in my next care package."

"On the other hand, the first person account of Genghis Khan's campaign has only ever been translated into german and that was just prior to World War 2. There hasn't been a big cry for reprints on that one." The Professor shakes his head.

Looking over over the collected paperbacks, he points to Billy's 'The Moon is a Harsh mistress'
"The Brass Cannon. Good choice, sir."

Kelsey grins at Liberty.

"I always wanted the wings, myself," she confesses. "I don't even know what I'd do with them, but being able to fly would be a pretty neat upside."

She looks over at Billy. "I've been meaning to read the Moon is a Harsh Mistress. That's one of the classics of the genre, right?"

The paramedic smiles at Bob, then turns her attention back to Henry and the Professor. "Sounds like fun. I was trying to read through the Kalevala before we left for Montreal - the whole thing's up for free online. I think I only got to the fifth or sixth chapter, but it's full of magic bards, sorceresses, and epic poetry about bacon."

"Epic poetry about bacon??" The Professor's ears perk up "Now that is a good enticement to read a novel."

"The Moon is a Harsh Mistress was printed before I was born and it still stands as a great story today. If you have ever seen the acronym TANSTAAFL, it explains what that means. I may not agree with everything Heilein thought, but he was a very deep thinker"

The Professor passes his flask to Henry in salute of his knowledge

"If Melly can find my copy of The Táin, I'll let anyone read it. The main reason I was looking back over this original copy is because Cuchulainn has a conversation with Morrigan in it. Might give me some clues about the Lady in White, I hope. And let's hope the Fae we met don't work for Queen Mebh. That would be Bad! "

:: Liberty raises her attention from her comic. For a moment she looks off into space, then she says ::
I used to think that having wings was something reserved for fiction. Then my car broke down in Whisper Hill.

:: She raises her brows as if in an infinitesimal shrug, then looks down again. The next is stated to the comic, a page of which she flips. ::
Interesting that it was the Celts telling tales of how they are such remarkable warriors that only a super-human force could beat them. Rather poetic boasting.

:: she looks up suddenly, not actually focusing on anyone as she adds ::
Are these the stories in which The Morrigu combatted the Fomorians? Were the Fomorians Fae? If so, what sort? They didn't seem The Shining Ones sort.
