The Doctor is in (But out of phase)

*Before the weekend*
Professor Challenger finished speaking with the owner of the AAA Diner. He had just gotten permission to use one of their spare storerooms as a temporary office. Wandering into the back room, he pushed over a large crate and propped up a large sheet of cardboard. Pulling out a sharpie, he scrawled out an announcement that "The Doctor is In" and dragged in a few chairs to sit in.
Thinking a second, he added a second sign, listing all the languages he can translate.
Pulling out his pipe, he settled back in his chair and waited for business.

*After the weekend*
Well, that was a pretty eventful time. The Professor tapped his pipe against the side of the crate and stretched out his aching feet. The light around him seemed a bit fuzzy. The pipe itself actually passes partially through the wood. This is going to be pretty annoying. he thinks to himself being not wholly in the material world is going to make seeing patients difficult
But as best I can, The Doctor is In if anyone wants to talk

"Hey, doc. How's it hangin'?"

Jackal strides up to the makeshift booth, a questionable grin on his face.

"So, I don't need any psycho babble or anything like that--I'm beyond help. But I was wondering if you could answer a few questions of mine concerning a certain white-clad vision of death that seems to have an interest in you."

"Ah, yes. The Lady in White. I'll answer what I can, but my information is sketchy."

The Professor leans back in his chair and puffs a cloud of vanilla scented tobacco

"I'm not sure she is interested in me particular. She has requested to speak with a few people from our little group by name, but she has only spoken directly to me because I show her proper respect. What drew me out to her were the raven spirits she uses as her messengers. I have a bit of history with another fellow that uses two raven spirits and I thought originally he may be around"

He takes a flask out of his pocket and takes a sip, making a bitter face.

"Medicine" he explains, "So what questions might I try and answer for you?"

"Mostly ones you probably can't answer, but you're the best lead I got, and Connor's not exactly sharing." Jackal sat down in one of the available chairs, using another to prop his feet up.

"I'm less interested in her than in beings like her. Gods of death. Carriers of souls. Psychopomps. Whatever the hell you want to call them. There's plenty of them in every mythology, right? So if the Lady is hovering around in her holy whiteness, the others might be around too, right? And what's this reaver everyone keeps muttering about?"

"Ahhh, then I have two stories for you, student."

"First, the Reaver. Back while we were on the island, before the quarantine, the Lady in White had appeared a few times. On one of these visits, she asked us to intervene in a ritual that was being worked by a Reaver. While I am not sure of it's exact taxonomy, it appeared to be a form of demon. While we had no reason to do the Lady's bidding, stopping a Demonic creature from achieving some goal seemed like a good idea to most of us. With a little help from her, we were able to reset a series of very heavy stones into a different pattern and the Reaver and it's minions were gone."

Taking off his glasses, the Professor rubs his eyes.

"This actually happened again this weekend. The Lady in White appeared to us and asked us to do a similar task. Re-arrange a ritual. Now this ritual had been taken apart by some undead. Some of us had to track down the undead and recover the stones, while others of us got the stones moved into the same arrangement as last time. When the stones were correctly placed, the undead disappeared. We found out later, that some of them had been attacking the diner while we were out."

Putting his glasses back on and picking up his pipe, the Professor goes on.

"As for the second story. About others of her kind, we've met at least one. On the same night as the second ritual, just before we met and aided the Lady, two Raven spirits appeared and gave us the impression that the Lady in White was there. We followed them a short ways, but were greeted by a woman calling herself the Witch Queen. She told us that she was the Lady in White's sister and had traveled from afar to check up on her and see what she was doing. She was quite interested to know if we had met any other "strange" entities. I did ask her two direct questions. I asked her if all the beings in her family used Raven spirits as minions and she advised me that they do. My second question was if we mayhaps might meet others of her family. Her reply was that for our sakes, she hopes not. I don't know if there is antagonism between the two, but she did pass along a message with us to tell the Lady in White. It was a chess move. That tells me that the two of them are playing games. Exactly what the game is and who are the pieces, I am not sure yet."

"Interesting. I was there when we rearranged the stones. Got the nasty undead-given bruises to prove it too, but there didn't seem to be a Reaper."

Jackal shifts in his chair, discomfited, "A second one? I wonder if there's any relationship shared between these...deities and the ones I follow. You mentioned you had some history with another raven-affiliated fellow--I wonder if they don't all have something to seek in Whisper Hill."

"As for who we suspect she may be, I have to get into lecture mode."

The Professor sits up straight and pulls his notebook in close

"The Morrígan , which means "phantom queen" or Mórrígan which means "great queen" is also spelled Morrígu or in the plural as Morrígna, and spelt Morríghan or Mór-ríoghain in Modern Irish. She is a figure from Irish mythology who appears to have been considered a goddess, although she is not explicitly referred to as such in the texts.

The Morrígan is a goddess of battle, strife, and sovereignty. She sometimes appears in the form of a crow, flying above the warriors, and in the Ulster cycle she also takes the forms of an eel, a wolf and a cow. She is generally considered a war deity comparable with the Germanic Valkyries, although her association with a cow may also suggest a role connected with wealth and the land.

She is often depicted as a trio of goddesses, all sisters, although membership of the triad varies; the most common combinations are Badb, Macha and Nemain, or Badb, Macha and Anand; Anand is also given as an alternate name for Morrigu. Other accounts name Fea, and others."

"A trio of goddesses, much like Artemis, Selene, and Hecate in some Ancient Greek cults, I assume. There's so much similarity between deities across cultures. Sometimes it's hard for me to keep them straight.

So she's a shapeshifter, a warrior, and a de facto goddess of death, especially compared with the valkyrie. That doesn't worry me at all." Jackal grinned, "Perhaps I should have a conversation with her."
