So in terms of books, I have two recommendations (besides the Dresden Files which are listed as part of the inspirational material for the game).

The first is the Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs.
It's a great view of how someone with fairly limited powers can interact with things far more powerful than themselves. And the Fairies in particular in the series are a great mix of interesting and fairly dark. Plus, the main character is pretty much a Skin Walker, for those interested in that.

The second is Written in Red by Anne Bishop.
It's pretty dark/mysterious and shows that the creatures like werewolves and vampires can still be monsters while being characters. This one is definitely more in the feel of this game in that the world's feel is pretty oppressive and dark.

'Zodiac' by Robert Graysmith- the whole [true] everything about the Zodiac killer. It actually terrified me to read it and I was paranoid for about a month afterwards. Includes elements that 'could' cover two or even three styles of the 'flavor axis.'

'Infectious' by Scott Sigler- The first in a trilogy, which is followed by 'Contagious,' then 'Epidemic.' Good, gory, and perfect for this game.

Haunted. Chuck Palahniuk. I got to maybe Chapter 4-5 saw where it might be heading and had the sense to put it down. Then lock it in a box before chaining in a devils trap. I know it is just a book. Those were a reminder for me turn back if wanted to keep from jumping at shadows.
