Hi all,
So, not having played a modern game before, I was wondering what other people are planning to do for their modern boffer weapons?

Being an older professor, I'll be using a cane for primary melee. I'll have a pistol, but limited ammo (few shots before reset) will be a smittie

I'm thinking of constructing a baton; I'm also using a bunch of throwing knives.

I'll be using a hockey stick as a staff, cause nothing says 'kill that guy first' like a robe and staff, also it fits in much better.

I have the idea of using a closed umbrella as a boffer, though no idea of how to go about making one.

I always thought it would be a cool idea to have an open umbrella as a buckler--some kind of "reinforced material"--but I never figured out a safe way to do that either. lol

For the closed umbrella you could use either carved open cell or add strips of closed cell to make a sort of "gathered fabric" look. I think I'd prefer carved open cell from a safety standpoint.

Open cell foam (the kind used for thrusting/squish tips) can be purchased in bricks. Scissors, a hot wire cutter, or an electric turkey carver all work reasonably well for carving the foam into any shape you like.
