Tablet translation fail

As a few of you know, we made several discoveries on the Archeological dig on Saturday. One of the discoveries was 4 parts to a broken tablet. The Professor worked hard on trying to translate the message on the tablet but all he ended up doing was pulling his hair out.

The tablet is written in some form of the Algic language. The reason I say some form is that there are 8, possibly 9 symbols on the tablet that are not part of that language or part of any language known to the Professor. The parts of the tablet he did translate came out as gibberish. unknown symbols interspersed with numbers and letters with no coherence.
(Example, the first line is 1 6 * h 8 * a b/t * * The asterix are unknown symbols and the b/t means that the symbol for B and T are exactly the same in Algic. )

Between having about a third of the message's alphabet being unknown, 5 symbols in the Algic language itself that have more than one meaning, no breaks to show what might be word clusters and no punctuation, this is no longer a translation. It's going to have to be solved as a code to crack.

I will post what little The Professor was able to translate here in the next week. After that I will see about getting a copy of the symbols converted into numbers to let the code crackers take a stab at this.
