Remembering the Dead

Remembering the Dead

Dallas sat on the porch of cabin number 5. To her right was a comic book and her left was a few empty beers and one about half. She did no drink often, but today was a day she really needed it. It was a chilly night, but the sky was clear. She tugged some on her warm scarf as her eyes just wandered up to the sky. There was so much emotion and sadness in the town. For her, what Gus did was not upsetting. If she was inside there, she would have made the same exact decision. He was a hero through and though, and so she only felt proud and honored to have met him. The problem was, all this sadness and Gus' sacrifice reminded her of something she was dreading. This was the first time she was away from her parents on the anniversary of her brother's death. Not too many things really get to her anymore, but this is just something you never get use to.

Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes and took a swig of her drink.

Jacob walks out of the cabin drying his hair with a towel, having just taken a shower. He stands in silence for a moment, looking and Dallas, then to the alcohol besides her. He sighs, breath visible in the cold night air. He crosses his arms, and looks up at the stars.
"Sure is beautiful."

Dallas jumped quickly, a bit caught off guard. It took her a second to catch her balance. Once she was steady she looked up to Jacob. She had a somewhat goofy smile on her face really showing off her red cheeks.

"You betcha."

She sighed loudly and looked down into her quickly descending drink.

"I wish things were always this beautiful."

Jacob smiled, grabbed a beer, and sat down.
"That's just part of our world."
He cracked open the beer, and tossed his head back for a large swig. He stayed silent for a moment, thinking of the past couple nights. He had a lot of thinking, hell and a lot of research to do about himself, he had hardly thought of the others around him.
"I've been told I'm a good listener, if you have something you want to get off your chest."
