victor slowly turned in a half circle to take in the introductions. buncha dorks, sure, but pretty surely not boring.
to the hillbilly military man who'd first spoken, she shot a sly half-grin; he was obviously a dupe, but he seemed like a decent one. she'd have to play nice if the time ever come to pull one over on that guy, though on first impression he looked like such a promising target that her uncontrollable penchant for mischief would find its way 'round to that at some point..
the tattooed girl she largely ignored, as she generally did with the standoffish - pretty used to that. things much, much worse a person could do than ignore a girl.. and she knew how it was with those body-modification weirdos, thought they were all in some kinda secret clan of cool or something. victor fingered the hunk of heavy silver plastic jutting vertically through her own lower lip (thank gosh there was SOME kinda jewelry that didn't make her face swell up like some kinda sketchy alien gourd - allergies sure are DUMB)- those dupes at the body mod place back in portsmouth had been cool to let a stupid kid like victor hang around, and had in truth been the closest things to friends she had in that dumb, stinky city, but when victor'd caught on to what they meant by sellin' "silly herbal teas" alongside their main service, she hadn't hesitated to call in favors. they'd been cool about it, and probably even knew she wouldn't've really gone to the Feds, but the hardware and a couple wrist tats were a fine prize for a thirteen year old girl's first dabble into Blackmail, and she had developed a thirst for the art. it was fun! man, she even kinda missed those guys, though she doubted they still thought about her..
victor's half-circle swung 'round - well, sort of shuffled on pigeon-toed hightops - to face kelsey. "you! are cool as hell, i don't care if you dress weird. i like you. and yeh, i'll take nuts over boring any day, haven't found anything but the latter 'round here so far and i am goin' outta my gorramn skull.. you're smart, too, 'cause i probably CAN help you - i got a pretty keen eye for clues, it's kinda what i do." stopped for a moment, looked a little embarassed..
"..outside of school, i mean, obviously. whatever."
the other guy who'd spoken up, kinda scary lookin' dark lord type from the looks of him (WERE they DnD types? they all seemed a bit too serious for that, but they sure were weird..) was clearly itchin' for business, and victor was feeling better than she had in days, so she let out an appreciative belly-laugh at his sinister humor (o, her favorite kind!) and flashed a wide and dazzling grin that hadn't been seen in some time.
with a newly lit sparkle in her eye, she nodded in agreement, and bounded nimbly (and much more lightly) after the odd group as they made their way toward the boathouse. this town was starting to look a LOT cooler.
..but just save your words as we walk on by
with the sky full of birds and the dusk approaching
climb the long grassy track to the top of winter hill
climb the real rocky track to the top, i'll see you back
i'll see you back on winter hill
