A Shrine to the Fallen

Mike walks in with some tools and some random bits. he begins making a shrine to the fallen of wispier hill. Past, present and unfortunately for the future. He works in relative silence consumed by his thoughts and work.

(( I am making a shrine to the fallen of wispier hill, so that we can properly respect all the dead. Any suggestions are welcome))

Madrigus steps over and watches Michael for a moment before asking what he's doing.

"Wait, who died,?"

Mike says without looking up "Gus Hanly, and another fellow whos name is eluding me and I would rather not tell you the wrong person. I'm sure someone can tell you and I the name. Its got to go up on the shrine anyway" Mike continues to work stopping to think. "and Adam from the town and an FBI agent both died, I'm sure they deserve to be on the shrine as well."

Madrigus frowned. "Well, that's..." He remains silent for a moment, watching. Finally he says "Need a hand?"

Hank Blackstone was the other one.

A good friend of mine, he just... It got to be too much for him. It could happen to any of us, I suppose...

"And that is why he will be part of the shrine." Mike looks at Madrigus "I dont mind if you help, just trying to figure out the best way to make the shrine and what it needs to look like. I dont want to offend anyone with its iconography. It should be a place of remembrance, not controversy."

Leslie walks up, looking tired and sort of dazed.

"I'm sorry about Hank; book club did all we could, but it wasn't enough."

His face changes to something a little fiery.

"Put Adam Campbell up there while you're at it. He was as much one of us as any of us. We need to remind ourselves what we've lost. We need to remind those who've done the taking that we will never forget what they took from us."

His tone is almost businesslike, but there's something fiery behind his eyes. The look is unmistakable. What he's thinking about is vengeance. But that; that's a tomorrow feeling, Leslie. I'm going to deal with that particular someone much, much later. After all, I have all the time in the world.

"As for Gus; I gotta say. He was a great man. Probably the only pillar of integrity among us worth listening to." He pauses. "Does anyone have a good picture of him? I think this shrine could use some pictures."

Bob chimes in as he's walking by, "FBI agent's name is Michael, not sure on the last.."

"His brother works for blackstone, I'll see if I can get a picture of him.."

"Senior Supervisor Michael Sanchez was his name, he was a friend. I'll ask Deputy Director White if he has a picture or if need be we can ask his brother, I'll get you one of Gus."

The voice comes from the door, and Mason steps in quietly. He wears a face of forced composure as he walks up to Leslie.

"He wasn't the only one worth listening to, but he was damn good man. We are all going to have to strive towards his example. We owe it to him and the rest of the fallen, but never forgotten."

Sally Lautner steps into the AAA and walks past the shrine. He skirts around those gathering by it, heads to the counter and orders a cup of coffee. He limps back a few moments later, cup in hand, and wincing some. Sipping the coffee got another wince, and Sally says,

"Right fine work ya got goin' here," his voice strained. He reaches into his pistol belt, grimacing at the effort, and sets down a crumpled up letter, then a metal pin with a bit of dark green fabric stuck to the back of it.

The letter appears to be from Adam Campbell, asking for help and sharing his appreciation with the Out of Towners that had taken an interest in his plight. Some of the writing is heavily scratched out, as if, when writing the letter, Adam had been unable to say certain things.

The pin is in the shape of a globe with an eagle atop it and an anchor angled down behind it. A dogtag chain has been run through the pin backing of the USMC Officer insignia.

"We lost two good men on Saturday night," Sally said, "And gawd knows how many more be'fore that. If the Few is what they called them folks that fought this shit 'forehand, than that's what Hank n' Gus was. The Few."

He touches the letter from Adam and says, "That boy showed more spine than mosta the folks that lived in this town fer the last who-knows-how-fuckin'-long. I'mma-" Sally stops himself an shakes his head in defeat. Not the place. Not the time.

"Semper fuckin' fi."

He walks away, stopping briefly at where JD and Victor have gathered, then out of the AAA.
