"To Spirit"

I have a few questions about a status a few of us picked up this weekend. I just want to be sure I'm going to play this correctly.
From what I understand, we now make all calls "to spirit", but if we want to affect a material thing/item/creature we have to spend an extra attribute to remove the "to spirit"
Question 1) I know we now swing melee damage "to spirit", but how should we call it (so as not to confuse an NPC)? I saw some people just striking and saying just "to spirit" since a simple strike is uncalled, others were saying "one damage to spirit"
Question 2) Do you call "to spirit" for non combat, no attribute spent skills? When I do Therapy or if I use Speak Brythonic, is that also "to spirit"?
If yes, and I want to affect a normal person since the skill doesn't normally use an attribute, do I spend any attribute I'd like? And if the skill does have an attribute cost, do you have to spend the same type of attribute?
Question 3) I already have a skill that has "to spirit" as part of the call. I'm not going to be silly and ask if I have to call "to spirit to spirit" (echo, echo) But can I use an attribute to remove the "to spirit" completely on this skill also?
Last Question) While we call "to spirit" we don't actually have the Spirit trait. So, this means all "to self only" skills will not work on ourselves?
