In the Midnight Rain

Her Nightmares weren't usually loud. At least... not nightmares that weren't lethal. They were quiet. Tossing and turning followed by quivering. Hands tightening into fists, her whole body contorting into an increasingly tight ball.

Until finally she sat straight up. Her eyes were wide and her face was pale. Her chest rose and fall in erratic gulps of air. She looked around the dark interior, disoriented as she reached under her pillow for a gun that wasn't there. And then under the bed for a bat that wasn't there other. Panic began to settle into the pit of her stomach before she began to crawl out of her confusion and into the present, remembering in bits and pieces.

She pushed herself out of her bunk, rustling the blankets as her labored breathing continued. She stumbled forward out into the open air. She felt claustrophobic, the quiet breathing of the other sleeping people around her pressing in on all sides.

Escaping the tent caused her to inhale sharply as the cold air hit her face. Water splattered down onto her hair and she looked up into the dark sky. Her eyes closed and she stood in the rain, face turned upwards. She stood there until her blood-stained tanktop was soaked through and she was trembling slightly. The only sign of life, other than the rising and falling of her chest in breath, was the murmured phrase "Fiat Lux..."
If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night
Calling out for the rope, sent by and we will
Watch the flames burn on and on the mountain side hey
