Below are the cabin assignments for our final event. Cabin assignments are based on registration, specifically including the team names listed during registration. I have a hunch that some people may be showing up to game who are not listed below--while there are clearly plenty of bunks available on site, the below reflects all of the intel I've been given. I'll try to work any issues out if people tell me sooner rather than later (drop me a PM or E-mail! No worries, I assure you!), but if people show up to game unannounced, I can't guarantee them a specific lodging. Plus, you know, every so often rocks fall from the sky and explode cabins, so stay on your toes.

Remember: do not worry if you cannot preregister immediately, due to life or sleeping--this is why we leave registration open for some days. However, please get your registration in before that time! It's a hassle on our system to add people after the fact and messes with some of our back-end planning, so again, please get your registration in before the end of Wednesday if you plan to play in November.

As we mentioned at last event's wrap-up, we intend for our finale to be a fully encapsulated event and will be a great experience for players old and new! If you have friends interested in Occam's Razor, this is their last chance!

If you miss this window, please email us directly at staff@occamsrazorlarp.com. We will do our best to work with you, but you may be treated to the Trout of Shame. ;)

This includes people who have bought season passes. While a Season Pass guarantees you the right to a slot, sometimes people with passes can't make events for whatever reason, and we wouldn't want to turn someone else away if we had an empty slot.

As a reminder, PC registration is done by logging in to the and clicking on Manage Events. ()

Registration will include a number of questions--please do your best to answer them completely and honestly. Especially the drop down ones--being vague on those will be a hardship. In all seriousness, though, we do need people to be specific regarding team names. When Bob writes "Team Awesome" and Eliza writes "Bob's Team" it can lead to issues--which Bob? Where did we put Bob? Etc. "Team Awesome" all around is much easier for us to deal with.

Unless and until we hear otherwise, this will be a Cold Weather Event () with our Sleeping Off-Site Policy in place (). If we get word that there are any changes, we will pass them on to you as soon as we can.

Thank you.

The FINAL SEASON of Occam's Razor, in 2017, will be comprised of full weekend events on the following dates:

April 21-23
May 19-21
October 13-15
November 10-12

Non-Player Characters:

NPCs can participate in Occam's Razor free of charge, get all sorts of thanks, and we'll feed you, to boot.
NPC Briefing begins at 9pm Friday night. If you are unable to attend this briefing, one will be provided to you specifically before you may enter combat.
Please register using our CDB so we can accomodate your dietary needs and contact you for roles: http://occamsrazorlarp.com/cdb/npc_reg

Check out our NPC Guide for more information.

Players:

Registration

Approximately 4-5 weeks (5, schedule permitting) before each weekend event we will open a window for preregistration for the event in the CDB. This "registration window" will be open for 1 week. During that week, players may submit requests to register for the event and may volunteer to prepay for the event. No funds will be transferred at that point in time. 72 hours after the registration window closes, we will post the list of players who have successfully registered. At that time, those who successfully registered and volunteered to prepay will have 1 week to actually transfer funds to Occam's Razor. Failure to do so will cause the registrant to lose their place at the event.

We are implementing this policy to prevent people losing out just because they don't have access to an internet connection at 8:00pm sharp on a given day.

Season Passes for 2017 will become available at a future date. Likely at some sort of winter get together. Unless you people destroy the world between now and then. Which you might.

Event Costs
All Players must pay a $10 annual membership fee. The cost of attending one of the 2017 Full Weekend Events is $80. Any money paid ahead of an event that you cannot attend for whatever reason will be applied against the cost of your attendance at future events.

Event Schedule
Check in begins at Friday night at 8pm.
PC Briefing (on safety, rule changes, important notes, etc.) begins at 9pm in the Diner. Please make every effort to attend in a timely manner. If you are unable to attend this briefing, one will be provided to you specifically before you may enter game.
Game On will be called at 10pm sharp. People not present and accounted for on site by 11:00pm will be considered no-shows so that we can let people on the wait list in as PCs. Please let us know ahead of time if you will be late as best you can--we understand cell service is spotty the closer you get to site. If you let us know ahead of time that you'll be later than 11:00pm, we won't count you as a no-show.

Sleeping Off-Site Policy -- Check it out.

Food
Snack-type food is allowed in cabins, but PLEASE keep the cabins clean. Meal-type food is restricted to the Diner.

At the present time there will be NO MEAL PLAN offered to Players by Occam's Razor in 2017. Players will be responsible for their own foodstuffs.

Further Notes:
1) We advise you to bring a back up weapon in case the pretty one flunks safety testing. (Also: OOG Nerf Gun Policy Reminder--no modified guns or ammunition, no battery powered guns.)
2) Players can completely remake their characters without losing any CP one time after their first full weekend event, up to two weeks before their second event. Please notify staff if you would like to do this so we can unlock your history for edits.
3) How to PEL: It's done through the Character Database. Yay.
4) Please pre-sign your legal waiver. Also in the Character Database. More yay.

Thank you all for coming to the recent OR event. We really appreciate the enthusiasm each and every one of you brings to the game.

Unfortunately, as a group we did a less-than-stellar job with the recycling situation this time around. Windsor Mountain International, the camp site we call home, is *very* ecologically minded, and they've made a point of asking us to keep recyclables separate from garbage, and cardboard separate from everything else. We put up signs to this effect, and usually we're pretty good. This time, though, we fell down a bit, and the camp is Not Pleased.

I think we can all agree that we would like our beautiful site to be Pleased with us.

Going forward, please be extra sure to appropriately dispose of refuse. If the diner needs extra trashbags or some such, contact MC, and we'll be sure to help sort the situation out. Pun intended. Because you deserve it.

Thanks, guys, for your help in addressing this issue. See you in three weeks!

-The Mgt.

TLDR: Camp is really unhappy that we didn't recycle appropriately. We need to fix that.

It looks like we might be seeing temperatures this weekend dip into 20's overnight. Fortunately, at the moment, it looks like a dry weekend. I don't think that's terribly different than Friday night of last event, but I have heard some players talk about finding accommodations off-site for this event. Understandably so. We wanted to throw out there some considerations on our end.

1. If you are planning to stay off-site, please let us know by dropping us an email to that effect so we can be prepared. When you leave for the night during game, please drop us an email through the Amizon terminal or give us a wave at MC on your way out. This way we will know not to go looking for you.

2. We will plan to start running targeted plot on Saturday and Sunday morning at 10 AM. Small things may still happen before then for early-risers on site, but not likely something you will miss out on. We will not be sending anything out "looking for certain people" until 10 AM unless we have already seen you walking around in character.

3. Please keep in mind the travel time from site to your off-site accommodations during your planning. Likely, you will be looking at a 30 min drive at the shortest.

4. All the other Cold Weather Considerations still apply

As a side note, as you may have noticed, we are of the practice of keeping a pulse on our players as the nights wear on. We will continue to run stuff as late as there are BOTH a significant amount of players awake who are looking for something to do AND we have the wherewithal to do so (i.e. still live NPCs). We trust our players to take care of themselves and judge for themselves when it is time for them to go to bed (though we might raid you). In this case, we trust players to know when it is time to take themselves off-site.

In response to player concerns, forum discussions, and poll results, we are using the following system for Research going forward. Before getting into the specific changes, I want to make a brief statement on the philosophy and nature of the changes as a whole, to whit:

We are not out to nerf research. We have not nerfed research. If you interpret the below as a nerf, please take a step back, take a moment, and reread the post. I assure you, research points remain exactly as valuable as they have ever been, with each and every one being a solid resource. The more points spent on a particular Research Project, the better an answer you will get, even if some of those points are "required." See below, but remember: nobody lost any value. Also, I've used "Research Project" in place of "question" to denote that multiple people are likely work together.

1) Players will use a form separate and apart from the PEL to submit research questions within two weeks of the close of an Occam's Razor Session.

2) In short order after submitting their research, Players will receive a response from Staff indicating whether a particular Research Project is reasonable to pursue or not. If a submitted Project is not reasonable, the player will have the opportunity to submit a new question (within 48 hours). In some cases ("near misses"), Staff may suggest an alternative to a submitted question in order to facilitate more satisfying answers.

3) Each Research Project beyond the first a Player submits after a given Session requires a cumulative additional investment of 1 Research Point. E.g, For each individual PC, your first Project requires a minimum investment of 1 point, your second Project requires a minimum investment of 2 points, your third Project requires a minimum investment of 3 points, etc. This model applies no matter if you are working solo on Projects or pooling with a group of people. Note: Players receive full faith and credit for all points under this paradigm--spending 6 points on 3 Projects does NOT earn you three 1 point answers. You would receive a 1 point answer, a two point answer, and a three point answer. Players are not losing any point value under this system.

4) A single player must "head up" a given Research Project. All individuals collaborating on a Research Project must invest points in line with the model outlined above and will receive the same answer. The answer will be based on the total number of points contributed towards a given Project (as delineated by the Project Name system already in use).

5) Mixing genre research pools will never hinder or detract from an answer. This does not mean that all genre pools are equally valuable to a given Research Project, but you will never detract from a Project by putting your shoulder to the wheel and contributing points, and each point does help to obtain a better answer.

6) Research answers will end with one of two phrases:

"You feel you have exhausted this research topic."

or

"You think you may be able to discover more about this topic with further investigation."

So, with all that said, a parting note or two:

We want people to be happy with the Research system and the answers they receive. We think this set of tweaks will better focus PC attention and allow us to give answers you guys will be happier with. Also: Every point helps! A person with even 1 point has a valuable tool at their disposal, and we want to make sure that we get that across.

We wanted to give a quick announcement on the theme and tone of Occam's Razor. While we enjoy the rich supernatural setting of the game, keep in mind the setting is a normal town with (seemingly) mostly normal people. During the day, many residents of Whisper Hill work typical jobs and live typical American small town lives. At night, the residents of Whisper Hill tend to get inside and spend time with their families around nightfall.

They don't tolerate 'weirdos' very well, and we are STRONGLY ENCOURAGING people to blend into the town during the daylight hours. We also are more likely to have repercussions for criminal acts against normal human beings in the town.

Indeed, they also don't like people openly walking around with guns unless they're going hunting or are involved with law enforcement. They especially don't like a bunch of strange or overly powered weapons just laying around or being carried in plain sight (during the day). Rumor around town is the Sheriff has enlisted more deputies to help him enforce order, and the recent mayhem in town has led to increased weapon restrictions.

Realistically, it means you need to hide them in your cabin or in something interesting like a guitar case during daylight hours if you want to avoid trouble with the town. Your fellow PCs might also choose to inform you as such. Be creative. We aren't trying to limit people's fun, but we did set out to run this game with a specific environment. While it might fly in the face of other more traditional games to force people to hide weapons in a LARP environment, we think it will add more to the overall tone and theme to the game.

I'm warning PCs from an out-of-game perspective because we were a bit lax last event with enforcement. The weather was rough and we didn't want to force people in and out of the Diner to get firearms, given the mud and the snow. Our second event won't have the same restrictions, so expect us to be enforcing the ordinances of the town in full effect in game 2.

The PELs we received seem to state that our intended tone was something the community at large wanted. We heard you and have taken the appropriate steps to ensure the sleepy setting of Whisper Hill will be everything you want it to be (and more).

Thanks.

-The Staff-
